Attics in Columbus: not designed for storage, used for storage anyway
Most central-Ohio homes built before 1990 have unfinished attics that became de facto storage. Christmas decorations. Wedding china. The kid's college boxes. Old yearbooks. The decorations from the Halloween that was a really big deal in 2009. None of it should be up there long-term — Columbus attics swing 40+ degrees with the seasons and most of what's stored gets damaged eventually.
We bring it all down. Pull-down stairs, knee walls, low-clearance crawl access — we've worked all of it.
Old insulation and what we will (and will not) touch
If your attic has loose-fill or batt insulation that needs to come out, we can do basic insulation removal as part of a cleanout (not blown-in cellulose deep removal — that needs a vacuum truck). Vermiculite insulation in older Columbus homes (built before 1990) sometimes contains asbestos. If yours might, we'll tell you to get it tested before we touch it. Asbestos requires a licensed abatement contractor — we'll point you to one in Franklin County.
What a typical attic cleanout produces
Most attic cleanouts produce 4-12 boxes of donatable goods (vintage clothes, dishware, books that are still readable), a stack of broken furniture, a pile of holiday stuff that's seen better days, and the inevitable bag of unidentified textiles. We sort it all on the way out, send the donatable to ReStore / Goodwill, recycle anything we can, and dispose of what's truly done.
