PRICING & COST
Pricing & cost.
Real numbers, not 'starts at' bait. Here's what cleanouts actually cost in Columbus.
How much does junk removal cost in Columbus, Ohio?
+
Most Columbus jobs land in one of three Bite Sizes. Snack Bite ($199): up to 1/4 trailer โ a few items, a single appliance, or a mostly-empty single-car garage. Big Bite ($449): up to 1/2 trailer โ standard garage cleanout, most basement cleanouts, full-room hauls. Whole Hog ($899+): full trailer or multi-day โ estate cleanouts, hoarder situations, foreclosure work. The price is the price โ labor, dump fees, donation runs, and a sweep at the end are all included.
Do you charge by weight or by volume?
+
Volume โ how much space your stuff takes up in our trailer. This is fairer than weight-based pricing because you're not penalized for old appliances or sturdy furniture. We give you the price upfront before we start hauling.
Is there a minimum charge?
+
$99 for a single-item pickup, or $199 for the Snack Bite tier. Below that it doesn't make sense for us to drive out. Got a tiny job? Ask when you call โ sometimes we can fold it into a bigger nearby job at a discount.
Do you give discounts to landlords or realtors?
+
Yes. If you're booking 2+ jobs a month, we'll set you up with a volume rate (typically 15-25% off). Net-15 invoicing for established accounts. Email bookings@thegaragegator.com.
What's the cheapest way to get junk removed in Columbus?
+
If you only have one or two items and they're at the curb, Columbus city bulk pickup (free, scheduled via 311) is the cheapest. If you need more than that, or you need it gone this week, our $99 single-item or $199 Snack Bite is usually the next cheapest path. Most 'cheap' competitors charge less but tack on dump fees, stair fees, or 'discovery' upcharges โ our Bite Sizes don't.
Why is junk removal so expensive?
+
Two big reasons: dump fees (SWACO charges by the ton) and labor (two people, a truck, gas, insurance, and time). Our Bite Sizes are priced to cover all of that with no hidden fees. The 'expensive' feeling usually comes from competitors who quote low and add charges at the door โ we don't.
SAME-DAY, SCHEDULING, AND TIMING
Same-day, scheduling, and timing.
How fast we can move, when to book, and what shows up first.
Can you do same-day junk removal in Columbus?
+
Most days, yes. Text a photo to (740) 913-4287 before 10am and there's a strong chance we can get to you that afternoon. Bookings after 10am usually go to next morning. We work weekends without an upcharge.
How long does a junk removal job take?
+
Single-item pickup: 30 minutes. Standard garage cleanout: 90 minutes. Full basement: 2-3 hours. Estate cleanout (1,500-2,000 sqft single-family): 1-2 days. Hoarder cleanout: 2-5 days, paced.
Do you work weekends?
+
Yes. Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday 10am-4pm. No weekend upcharge. Weekend slots fill fastest โ book early.
How far in advance should I book?
+
1-3 days in advance for routine work. Estate cleanouts and hoarder cleanouts: 1-3 weeks because they involve walk-throughs, family coordination, and multi-day scheduling. Same-day is doable for most single-item or single-bay jobs.
WHAT WE TAKE (AND DON'T)
What we take (and don't).
Specific items get specific questions. Here are the most common.
Do you take refrigerators or freezers in Columbus?
+
Yes โ working or broken, full or empty. Freon-bearing units have a small recycling fee ($25-50) because we drain refrigerants at a certified facility. Working fridges under ~10 years old often go to Habitat ReStore; broken ones get scrapped.
Do you take mattresses?
+
Yes. $79 for a single mattress or box spring; $99 for a set. Important note: Ohio donation orgs (Furniture Bank, Goodwill, ReStore) don't accept used mattresses by policy, so they go to SWACO.
Do you remove hot tubs?
+
Yes. We disconnect (240V breaker), drain, dismantle on-site with a sawzall, and haul. Most Columbus hot tubs run $399-$699 flat-rate. Same crew handles above-ground pools and swim spas.
Do you take pianos?
+
Yes. Uprights $149-$199, baby grands $249-$399. We bring proper piano dollies and we know how to navigate Columbus stairs (especially in older neighborhoods like German Village and Old Worthington).
Do you take paint cans?
+
Dried-out paint, yes โ that's solid waste and we can handle it. Liquid paint is technically hazardous waste; we recommend Franklin County's monthly hazardous-waste collection (free) or SWACO's drop-off events. Same goes for motor oil, gasoline, and pool chemicals.
Do you take batteries or electronics?
+
Most electronics, yes (TVs, computers, monitors, gaming consoles, phones, printers). E-waste gets recycled through certified Columbus partners. Lead-acid car batteries are a no โ those go to AutoZone or Advance Auto for free recycling.
What WON'T you take?
+
Hazardous waste (motor oil, gasoline, asbestos, chemicals, lead-acid car batteries). Anything biohazardous (medical waste, blood, syringes). Anything that requires a licensed abatement contractor (asbestos, lead paint deep-removal). For each, we'll point you to the right Columbus resource.
DONATIONS, RECYCLING, AND WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR STUFF
Donations, recycling, and what happens to your stuff.
Where your couch, fridge, and old furniture actually go after we drive away.
Where does my donated furniture go in Columbus?
+
We route donatable furniture through Habitat ReStore, Furniture Bank of Central Ohio, Volunteers of America Ohio, and Goodwill Columbus depending on what each accepts. You get an itemized donation receipt within a few days.
Will you actually donate things or do you just say you do?
+
We actually donate. The receipts come from real donation centers โ we'll send the paperwork showing where each item went. About 60% of every haul gets donated, recycled, or resold; the rest goes to SWACO.
Can I get a tax-deductible donation receipt?
+
Yes. Itemized receipts come from each donation partner (Habitat ReStore, Goodwill, etc.). A typical garage cleanout produces $50-$200 of deductible value; estate cleanouts often produce $500-$3,000.
Is The Garage Gator eco-friendly?
+
We try. Every haul gets sorted three ways (donate, recycle, dispose). Metal goes to recycling, electronics go to certified e-waste handlers, donatable goods go to local nonprofits. We can't recycle everything, but we keep a lot more out of landfills than dump-and-run haulers.
LOGISTICS, ACCESS, AND HOW THE JOB ACTUALLY RUNS
Logistics, access, and how the job actually runs.
How we show up, what we need from you, and what happens once we're there.
Do I need to be home for the cleanout?
+
Not if you don't want to be. We work from a photo + a list. Our Keep-or-Chomp swipe game lets you make decisions on anything we're unsure about โ from anywhere with a phone, even if you're in another state.
Do I need to move things to the curb first?
+
No. Interior pickup is included. We come to where the stuff is โ basement, attic, third-floor walk-up, whatever. No stairs upcharge.
How big is your truck? Will it fit in my driveway?
+
We use a standard pickup with a trailer, not a 26-foot box truck. Fits in normal driveways and on tight Columbus streets (German Village, Bexley, Old Worthington โ we've worked all of them).
Are you licensed and insured?
+
Yes. Bonded and insured ($1M general liability) in Franklin County, Ohio. SWACO disposal account. Habitat ReStore and Goodwill donation network. Certificates available on request.
What if I have more junk than I thought?
+
We'll tell you on-site if your job is bigger than the tier you booked. You can decide then to upgrade or stick with the tier and we'll grab the rest next trip. No pressure, no surprise charges.
Do you sweep at the end?
+
Yes. Light cleanup โ broom-swept floor, no oil-stain pressure-washing โ is included on every cleanout.
How do I pay?
+
Cash, check, credit card (Square), or Venmo. Pay after the haul, when you can see what we did. No deposit, no upfront charges.

Columbus residents can schedule one bulk item per scheduled trash day at no extra charge โ call 311 or use the city's 311 app. Workable for a single chair you can drag to the curb. Doesn't help if you've got a basement full of stuff or need it gone this week.
